License Keys

Throughline is a one-time purchase from shop.getthroughline.com. No subscription, no account to create. Every purchase comes with a license key, and keys were generated retroactively for everyone who bought before they existed, so yours is waiting even if you’ve owned the app for a while.

Open your Gumroad library at app.gumroad.com/library and open Throughline. The key sits at the top of the purchase page. It’s also in your receipt email.

Keys look like this:

XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX

Enter your key when the app asks for it, or any time under Settings → License. Activation needs a brief internet connection, once. After that, Throughline works fully independently of any Throughline servers.

A key covers a limited amount of activations to prevent piracy. Reinstalls count toward that, so if you run out, just email support@peak-state.com or reach out to a dev in the Community.

Settings → License shows when you activated and a masked version of your key, plus a “Deactivate on this device” button. Deactivating removes the key from that machine only; it does not free up an activation on the key itself. If you need one back, that’s the support email again.

Projects live locally on your device, and they stay yours with or without a license. Even if the free period lapses before you’ve entered a key, Throughline offers a one-click “back up all projects and show folder” that works offline, and automatic backups keep running in the background. Unlike other expensive writing tools, Throughline never holds your work hostage.

“Key not recognized”: almost always a typo. Copy it fresh from your Gumroad library or your receipt rather than retyping it.

“Activation limit reached”: you’ve used all activations, usually across reinstalls. Email support@peak-state.com for a reset.

“Couldn’t reach the license server”: check your connection and try again. Activation is the only step that needs one, so this won’t come back once you’re through it.

Keys from refunded purchases can’t be activated.
